A world championship motor-racing team, with over 200 engineers using the on-premise 3DEXPERIENCE platform, sought to enhance the accuracy of its BOM (bill of materials) and the overall efficiency of its PLM-ERP integration. In a high-pressure, precision-driven environment, the primary goal was to ensure data quality before digital transfer to ERP (enterprise resource planning) and without disrupting established workflows.

Ensuring business continuity while improving BOM data validation and ERP preparation

The customer faced several critical challenges:

  • A well-established, business-critical change process, tailored for high throughput, used by well over 200 engineers and other business stakeholders.
  • BOM checkers were dissatisfied with the existing user interface, which was targeted at different use cases, so not optimized for their needs.
  • A new ERP system required improved data quality from PLM (product lifecycle management) to drive further downstream efficiencies.
  • Engineering teams were concerned about altering familiar processes.
  • The overarching goal was to facilitate advanced BOM data validation and ERP preparation within the existing 3DEXPERIENCE PLM change process without affecting the productivity of the engineering team.

A custom 3DDashboard widget for BOM checkers

TECHNIA developed a custom widget for 3DDashboard using Value Components that allowed BOM checkers to work in a dedicated UI, separate from the existing engineering interface. Key elements included:

  • A new stage in the change process, specifically for BOM checking.
  • Easy configuration with the customer’s custom change type.
  • Drag-and-drop support and integration with 3D geometry and drawings.
  • Capture of approval signatures and comments.

Deciding which bridge analysis tool is right for your team is not always straightforward. It can depend on the type of bridges you plan to work on, the types of analyses you will be conducting, the level of experience among users, and perhaps, their past experiences with different analysis software.

For the engineers at Rejlers, the prerequisites were clear, and not all the items on their wish list were about the technical performance of the software.

How to decide which bridge analysis software to use

As the bridge engineering team at Rejlers makes a fresh start and aims to grow rapidly, including both senior and junior engineers, they have a clear understanding of the types of projects coming up in the next year. Consequently, the requirements for their analysis tool were quite specific.

Rejlers needed an analysis tool that would be easy to use, quick to learn, yet robust and powerful. Working on the classification of road and railway-standard types of bridges, they decided to use BRIGADE/Standard. BRIGADE includes the predefined vehicles and combinations needed to perform classification analysis according to EUROCODE (including the national additions in TRVINFRA-00331).

Some users in the Rejlers bridge team have previously worked with BRIGADE/Plus, as well as other bridge analysis tools. Björn Lööw, Business Unit Manager at Rejlers, is one of them.
